COURSE NAME: Scent Discrimination

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Scent discrimination is one of the fastest growing dog sports. It is well suited for dogs of all ages, breeds and temperaments. Although it is a group class, the work you do with your dog will be done individually. It is a great focus and confidence builder as well as an amazing way to enhance the dog/handler bond. We don't often give our dogs a chance to use their sense of smell when we are working with them. Dogs love to use their nose, and this course will give them an opportunity to really show us what they are capable of! You will work with your dog to show them how to recognize the Wintegreen scent.
There will be 5 weeks of lessons where your dog will work up to searching 12 boxes to find the source. As this action takes a lot of mental concentration for both dogs and their people, we will include a few minutes of lecture time mid way in the class. This will include topics such as how scent travels, handling and storing equipment and trialing in sport of Scent Detection.
Week 6 will be your Designated Odor Test. The completion of the test is for your certificate, but...like all our classes..we encourage you to join us for fun on that evening even if a certificate is not "your thing". Your course fee includes your DOT test and lesson 6 will have the dogs tested one at a time.

COURSE FEE:  189.00 (+ taxes)

COURSE LENGTH:  6 weeks

COURSE NOTES:  Prerequisite: None! ***Note, a list of supplies needed for class will be handed out on lesson #1. Some supplies will be available to purchase on lesson #1.

COURSE NAME: Scent Discrimination - Level 2

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
During Scent Discrimination level 2 we will work on developing and refining leash handling, effective searching, and understanding and further developing your dog's indication. We will continue to work on container searches and we will move on to interior searches. You will also learn the principles of vehicle and exterior searches (without going outside!) - skills that you can take home and practice as you prepare to trial in the sport or just have fun with your dog. This course is good for most dogs, and search sites in the building can be adjusted towards dogs in class.

COURSE FEE:  189.00 (+ taxes)

COURSE LENGTH:  6 weeks

COURSE NOTES:  Prerequisite: Scent Discrimination beginner class with WWW, or equivalent. You do not have to pass the DOT test to attend Level 2.
